What does art look like that is not only about Water, but truly gives Water the space to experience it?

FLOATING FUTURES is a solo exhibition by Karl Karlas in which Water, material, and the city come together. Water takes on the role of co-creator: an active force that influences the creation and progression of the works. What Karlas designs is partly shaped by Water. This collaboration is not merely an idea, but becomes actually visible and palpable in the various works.

Central to the exhibition is • • • – – – • • • (S.O.S.), a floating glass sculpture that balances between artwork and life-saving device: strong and fragile, functional and absurd. During the exhibition, visitors can step aboard themselves. In this way, you experience the dependence of the construction and the Water.

During Days of ArtScience, S.O.S. appears on the waterways of Leiden, thus making the Leiden canal both partner and stage.
